This is one of the most delicious and easy to make desserts. You can put it on well in advance and it will be beautifully fresh for you when you’re finished dinner!


  • 6 slices of bread
  • 100g sultanas (or mixed dried fruit)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 400ml milk
  • 3 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon butter



  1. Grease inside of slow cooker with butter and place bread slices in slow cooker.
  2. Sprinkle over the sultanas.
  3. In a bowl mix the other ingredients and pour this mixture over the bread, making sure it is fully coated.
  4. Cover and cook for 2 hours.
  5. Serve warm or chilled with cream and or ice-cream.

  1. Why would you bother to use the slow cooker , I make mine cook in oven takes about 3/4 hour, same recipie.

    • Hi Judith, it’s just a great alternative to using the oven if you’re cooking something else. It’s delicious both ways!

      • One of my & my mother’s old time favourites But – the bread is always buttered & cut into quarters in our recipe. Try it with buttered fruit bread for a change too (still add more sultanas) – and always the special taste of finely grated lemon peel! I have never heard of this pudding being baked any way other than slowly in a water bath . I’m 81 so this pud goes back a very long time.

  2. Love this… My Mother put strawberry Jam and coconut sprinkles on the top. . We would fight over who got the edges.
