The couple couldn't keep a straight face.

The president and first lady Barack and Michelle Obama have delivered their final Christmas message at the White House, laughing their way through much of it.

The couple were happy and smiling throughout, with Michelle taking a dig at her husband and showing a flashback to their first message in 2009 when Barack kept interrupting her in a fit of laughter.

She also took aim at his dad jokes, which she said the American people had suffered through during his time as president.

“Merry Christmas everybody!” Michelle started.

“Celebrating the holidays in the White House over these past eight years has been a true privilege. We’ve been able to welcome over half a million guests, our outstanding pastry chefs have baked 200,000 holiday cookies, and Barack has treated the American people to countless dad jokes.”

“Although a few got a Frosty reception,” Barack was quick to respond, forcing an eye roll from his wife.

They went on to talk about the work they had done over the years and wished everyone a happy new year, making fun of one of their dogs, Sonny.

“On behalf of all the Obamas, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, Bo and that trouble maker Sonny, Merry Christmas everybody.”

Next year, it will be Donald Trump and his wife Melania delivering the message, with Trump set to take office on January 20 next year.

While fans of the Obamas are sad to see them go, many Trump fans are looking forward to his different style of management and are hoping he can cause change around the world.

Are you sad to see Barack and Michelle leave? Or are you looking forward to a Trump presidency?

    Two lovely people

    • They got a lot accomplished in 8 years in spite of the obstructionism. We are indebted to each of them for their work on our behalf.

    • Valerie Lawrance

Even though I am Australian, I will miss this lovely family. I love their humor and humbleness and sense of family. Good luck to them in their life beyond the White House. Bless them.

  2. Cydnie

So happy they are leaving! A very Merry Christmas, indeed, knowing it’s their last in the White House.

    • Mareela

Good luck with Trump Cydnie. Will you be there when he is impeached? America used to be a world leader. Not any more. Hope you’ve built your nuclear bomb shelter. You’re going to need it. LOL What a disaster!

      • Hear, hear!
Trump wouldn’t know the meaning of the word “gracious”.
Come to think of it, the same applies to most politicians.

    • Phil

I bet you’d have a different opinion if he was white.

  3. Claire Hancock

Many people recognise the Obamas’ wonderful legacy today … but for others, only the passage of time and the reflection on history will bring appreciation of the immense value and importance of their time in the White House.

  4. Veena Dass

Good folk are not appreciated fully until they are gone. Starry eyed change dimms when the flush of newnedd recedes but good works endure. Michelle and Barack have delivered their best and no one can ask for more. The best you can do will come when the distraction of the WH is no more.
Thank you for honouring God’s gift of your talents.

  5. Dana West

Will miss the Obamas ferociously and definitely not looking forward to a Trump presidency!

  6. And how boorish will Trump appear the first time he opens his mouth as President . . . every time, actually?
I’ll never understand (apart from his liberal use of cash and paybacks to his cronies, plus the perceived redneckedness of a lot of those who voted for him) how America could have sunk so low as to elect him.

    • Nanna

I agree, from the other side of the world, I agree. Trump isn’t President material and never will be.

  7. judy

U.S. is going from the sublime to the ridiculous. Yes the Obama’s will be missed, & how!

  8. Jo T

so sad to see Michelle & Barack leave and proud of their legacy. They were everyday people who worked hard to help everyday people. I pray to God…no matter what religion, race or sexual orientation, to give the president elect an awakening that will have him realize we do have a great country and we don’t need to feed greed and anger to make change. I am scared for our country and the world with the incoming leaders so I will just continue to pray that somehow they will be enlightened to do the right things.

    • Joan Marshall

Hooray that Donald Trump will bring change which a lot of people are afraid of. Fear of the unknown always frightens people. I know it did frighten me when I divorced my husband but by putting my faith in the God that created me and a determination that with my two kids I wa going to show the world we will survive and we did. A massive change came about from comfort but so much unhappiness to being able to sleep at night without strife which was every day to peace and contentment. My children tell me they are privileged to have me as their Mother.

  9. The Obama’s were the most happy and down to earth President and First Lady ever to live in the White House. Oh how we will notice the change when arrogant, full of himself Trump moves in.

  10. Terri Rice

Yes – Donald the Duck has finally managed to Quack & Trump his way into rhe WhiteHouse – or will it now become The White Elephant?

  11. Jammy Dodger

Apart from increasing the US debt mountain more than any other US president or further destabilising the Middle East with failed foreign policy, just to name a few…. Yes it’s a happy Christmas oh sorry….holidays marketing message sugar coating his failEd legacy.

You apparently don’t research the facts. Under Obama, the deficit went DOWN and unemployment went DOWN. You prefer your political bias and racism rather the truth.
