You might recognise him as the cheeky weatherman from Channel Seven’s Sunrise, but Sam Mac debuted a different look this week when he was forced to bring back his high school haircut after losing an online bet.
Sam ‘Mac’ McMillan shared a photo of his year nine bowl cut on Instagram on Monday and bravely promised to recreate the iconic do if his school photo earned more than 10,000 likes on the social media platform.
Less than 24 hours after he posted the dare online though, the TV personality had racked up more than 12,000 likes, prompting him to take a trip to the barbers for a trim.
Sharing an image of the final result on Instagram on Tuesday, Sam wrote: “Wowsers. It happened. Can’t decide if I’m…A) An overaged Backstreet Boy who can’t let go of 1998 B) A dude named Ocean working in a Surry Hills Vintage Clothing Store or C) Someone who definitely belongs on a watch list.”

The Adelaide-born TV star, who replaced Edwina ‘Eddie’ Bartholomew as Sunrise’s weather presenter in 2016, told The Daily Telegraph: “I am not one to be shamed easily but this is pretty embarrassing. I am walking through the airport with my hat on.”
Appearing on the breakfast current affairs show on Wednesday, the presenter kept his new do covered and opted to wear a black baseball cap.
However he only has himself to blame for the gaffe as he posted the original call to action on Monday, alongside the caption: “If this [photo] gets 10,000 likes on Instagram I will go to the hairdresser tomorrow & bring back my year 9 Undercut do. You know I’m deadly serious.”

His Sunrise co-star Eddie announced that the “haircut was happening” on Tuesday morning’s show. She said: “The haircut is happening! Breaking news, developing now. 10, 674 likes.”
Sam replied: “As long as you guys are comfortable with me looking like that tomorrow.”
While David ‘Kochie’ Koch added: “Anyone who hasn’t been following this, Sam put his year nine photo up with the challenge that if he got 10,000 likes on Instagram he would bring that haircut back.
“Ladies and gentleman, congratulations! We are bringing that cut back at your request!”
