Sally Field steals the show at Tony Awards

Sally Field stunned the audience at the 2017 Tony Awards

Celebrities gathered by the dozen to celebrate the 71st Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall, but we couldn’t take our eyes off Sally Field as she walked the red carpet.

Eschewing the more daring fashion statements for an elegant and understated number, 70-year-old Sally looked every bit the Broadway baby in a form-fitting off-the-shoulder navy gown.

The fun feathered texture of Sally’s skirt was complemented by delicate, swirling beaded detail.

The navy gown and black detailing was the perfect choice for Sally’s fair skin, allowing her refined grace to shine through, while a relaxed updo framed her face.

The colour of the gown and its subtle embellishments meant Sally contrasted flawlessly with the stunning flower wall created by Raul Àvila, which included 20,000 white roses.

Sally walked the red carpet with son Sam Greisman, aged 29. It’s clear Sam has inherited his impeccable fashion sense from his mother; he looked dashing in a tuxedo and bow tie, and Sally was all smiles as the two were photographed together.

While Sally lost out to Laurie Metcalf (A Doll’s House, Part 2) for best performance by a leading actress in a play, she took the stage as a presenter.

Paired with a designer gown and minimal make-up, even Sally’s glasses seemed effortlessly chic as she surveyed the audience, with her natural charisma lighting up the room.

It was Sally’s performance in The Glass Menagerie that put her front and centre at the Tony Awards.

The star-studded revival of the Tennessee Williams play has divided critics, and a startlingly difficult season on Broadway saw the play close on May 21. The original end date was slated for July 2.

In the face of the controversial early closing date, Sally’s nomination is a testament to her incredible talent and a portrayal that reviewers have dubbed electric.
