While they don’t damage your home like some bugs, they do put unsightly webs around your home and can startle you like nothing else when you come face to face with one.
A image posted to popular forum Reddit shows the scary moment a giant huntsman spider landed on a Sydney homeowner’s window with a massive thud. The massive critter, which the owner estimates is the size of his palm, terrifyed the man and his cat last night when it slammed against the window.
The huntsman, which is known for its speed and monstrous size, then made itself comfortable as it sat on the lounge window.
He added: “I know huntsman are supposed to be our friends but this guy is pushing the acceptable boundaries a bit.”
Readers were quick to reply, with one writing: “Aw it’s just a baby, so cute when they’re small like that”. Another person asked what he has decided to call the spider, and although someone suggested Shelob, it turns out the critter had been named Geoffrey.
The terrifying discovery also prompted others to share their terrifying huntsman stories.
“I was once driving across Harbour Bridge with a foreign friend who’s terrified of spiders, when she suddenly grabbed and then scrambled out of her seat and into the back,” one commentator wrote. I look over at the passenger window and see the same view as this pic. Massive huntsman practically the size of the window, sitting on the outside.
“Had to keep driving, while this thing slowly walked over to the front of the car and into the engine. By the time I could stop and lift the bonnet it had disappeared somewhere inside the car.”
Another person wrote: “I lived in Hurlstone Park for 8 months and I would either wake up or come home to a huntsman in my room at least once every 2 weeks.”
