An ambulance vehicle in Queensland has been left out of action following a sickening attack over the weekend.

The Queensland Ambulance Service shared a worrying statement on their official Facebook page, informing the public that a rock had be hurled at one of their vehicles that was responding to a person in need.

Frustrated, the Queensland Ambulance shared a photograph of the damage to the vehicle in hopes to bring the culprit to justice. “How is this for an example of moronic senseless stupidity?” they asked.

“Around 1235hrs today whilst responding to a person in need a rock was allegedly thrown from the overpass just prior to the Smith street exit on the M1 southbound at Gaven shattering the windscreen of an Ambulance unit. Thankfully our crew is ok and uninjured.”

The service was thankful that nobody got hurt, but expressed their concern that the attack had potentially stopped them from reaching a person in need. “Besides the obvious consequences this idiotic act could have caused, there may well have been a delay in getting to what could have been a life-threatening case,” they continued.

“Thankfully for the patient this crew was attending there was no detriment, but if it would have been a cardiac arrest things could have been very different. Let’s hope the individual responsible takes a moment to think, it could have been one of their loved ones our crew was attending. If anyone has any information on this incident please message us or call QPS.”

Many people flooded the Queensland Ambulance Service Facebook page with their disgust and horror at the attack. One person wrote: “As a nurse, I have total respect for you guys, and complete disregard for the stupidity of these individuals. I’m so pleased your patient wasn’t affected, and you yourselves are ok and weren’t injured in any way. Keep up the awesome work you all do”.

Another comment read: “This angers me. The stupidity. If they are found, the penalty should be community service. Make them give back to the community. And put it on their police file. The consequences need to be enough to deter them,” while a third added: “So sad to see what the low life are stooping to for attention…..where are their Mum and Dad’s and what happened to proper upbringing with love and affection from their parents. Kids who have good parental support don’t do this crap. My parents would have punished me so much. I learnt their respect from their good parenting”.

It’s not the first time hospital staff have needed to go public with the abuse they receive. Last month, staff from the Royal Melbourne Hospital released disturbing footage detailing the horrific violence nurses, doctors and staff have been subjected to at the hands of patients. The hospital released the footage with hopes it would deter people from the aggressive behaviour next time they seek medical help.

In one disturbing scene, a man can be seen smashing his way through a glass door with a chair he picked up in the waiting room. Further footage shows a man causing damage to a reception area and trying to headbutt anything in his way.

What do you think? What needs to be done to stop violence against ambulance services?
