Top comic apologises for tasteless Trump ‘execution’ photo

Comedian Kathy Griffin has issued an apology after widespread backlash against her after she posed for photos in an ISIS-inspired shoot holding a fake severed head which was supposed to resemble Donald Trump.

Griffin initially Tweeted the image saying, “I caption this ‘there was blood coming out of his eyes, blood coming out of his…wherever,'” referring to Trump’s comments after a debate co-moderated by then-Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly pre-election.

In a video uploaded to her Twitter and Facebook accounts, Griffin apologised for crossing a line in her comedy and taking it too far.

“I sincerely apologise,” Griffin said. 

“”I’m a comic. I crossed the line. I move the line and then I cross it. I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people, it wasn’t funny, I get it.”

“I ask your forgiveness. Taking down the image, gonna ask the photographer to take down the image and I beg for your forgiveness. I went too far, I made a mistake and I was wrong.”

The overwhelming response on Twitter was that the stunt was tasteless and appalling, but some defended it. 

Donald Trump can talk about grabbing a womans pussy without asking but Kathy Griffin can't hold up a fake head? Hm.
