Angelic-in-white Sylvia Jeffreys stars at ‘social event of the year’

Morning television favourite Sylvia Jeffreys looked angelic in a dramatic white gown at a Sydney fundraising event, but it was her Today show co-star Karl Stefanovic who accidentally stole the show at the glossy Gold Dinner.

The dinner, which the Daily Telegraph dubbed one of the biggest social events of the year in the city, attracted plenty of TV faces and socialites, but Stefanovic was the one in the media’s spotlight, with the newspaper quizzing him over a story that fiancee Jasmine Yarbrough was pregnant.

New Idea reportedly published a story this week that teased readers with a headline reading ‘Is this the picture that proves Karl and Jasmine are having a baby’ – notably leaving off the question mark on what otherwise looks like a question – and pointing to an Instagram photo of the couple at a recent wedding in which Yarbrough’s stomach looks VERY slightly more prominent.

Of course, it could’ve been just a good meal or the frill on the front of her skirt, but that didn’t stop New Idea labelling it a “telltale” snap. 

But Karl, who got together with Jasmine, 34, shortly after the break-up of his marriage to journalist Cassandra Thorburn, put paid to those rumours during his appearance at the Gold Dinner on Thursday night. “She’s definitely not pregnant,” he told the Daily Telegraph, adding, just in case there was any doubt, “One hundred per cent no”.

Yarbrough looked understated in a simple black gown with a plunging neckline, but Jeffreys, who is Karl Stefanovic’s sister-in-law as well as his colleague, upped the fashion ante with a dramatic white gown with a high, fluted neckline and sleeves. Along with husband, TV reporter Peter Stefanovic, she was acting as a presenter at the event, which raises money for the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children’s Hospital.

And Sylvia wasn’t the only one who pulled out all the stops for the event. Nine News presenter in Sydney, Deborah Knight, stuck to the gold theme in a pretty, semi-sheer dress with heavy gold embroidery.

Meanwhile, Studio 10 regular Ortenzia Borre was also VERY gold in a ruffled dress with big bows.

And footballer’s wife and shoe designer Terry Biviano left little to the imagination in lavender lace.

But it was socialite and PR Roxy Jacenko, who’s rarely out of the Daily Telegraph‘s social coverage, who caused a stir with a huge, ruffled powder-blue dress that was very short in front but trailing at the back.

The dress, made by bridal and eveningwear designer Nicky Velani, would’ve taken some doing to squeeze into a car at the end of the night.
