He may be a Hollywood legend, but when it comes to his grandkids, Michael Douglas is just like every other grandparent – a total softie.

The Basic Instinct actor proved he’s every bit the doting grandfather in a sweet photo of him holding his baby granddaughter, Lua. The gorgeous photo was shared on Instagram by the 73-year-old’s son, Cameron, who is Lua’s father.

Cameron captioned the photo, “Lua loves her Buba”.

It wasn’t just fans who were left cooing over the photo either as not long after, Michael’s wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, shared her own version, only this time she’d turned it into an animated video with a cascade of love hearts falling over the pair.

“True love. Baby Lua with her doting Buba,” she wrote alongside the video.

The tight-knit family often share loved-up photos of each other, especially when the grandchildren and great-grandpa Kirk Douglas are around.

Despite their vast age differences, Lua and her great-grandpa share a special bond as evidenced in another snap shared by Cameron in August.

The black-and-white photo shows Kirk, 101, staring lovingly down at eight-month-old Lua, who’s hand is outstretched towards him.

The pair’s bond even reaches to their names as Lua’s middle name Izzy is a tribute to Kirk, who was born Issur Danielovitch and was known as Izzy for much of his life.

These special family moments are particularly precious for Cameron, who was released from jail in 2016 after spending seven years behind bars. The actor was found guilty of possession of heroin and selling methamphetamine in 2010.

Upon his release, he told The Mail on Sunday it was the love of his family that got him through the loneliness of prison.

“My family never gave up on me, not for one second,” he said.

“When that cell door slammed shut on the first night of my incarceration, I felt like I was in a bad dream, that I would wake up. But the dream carried on and got worse. I lived a nightmare for seven years but the love of my family never wavered.”

He also revealed that Kirk would come visit him behind bars until he was too frail to travel anymore. Then, he sent “at least two letters a month” to remind Cameron “you are not forgotten”.

Not long after he was released, Cameron met his Brazilian girlfriend Viviane Thibes, and months later they were pregnant with baby Lua.

Michael previously told Radio Times that Cameron’s struggle with drugs was “a nightmare” and stressful for all involved, but said he’s proud Cameron’s in such good shape now and that he pulled his life together for the better.
