The ABC has cancelled Yassmin Abdel-Magied’s show Australia Wide, following her controversial Anzac Day comments.
Abdel-Magied has hosted the show since 2016, travelling the country to speak to ‘everyday Australians’ and showcase their stories.
The 26-year-old has faced serious backlash since she posted on Facebook on Anzac Day: “Lest We Forget (Manus, Nauru, Syria, Palestine …)”.
Her words were interpreted by many has a dig at Australia’s veterans and disrespectful to the sacrifices our diggers made in Gallipoli.
The ABC has denied the backlash had anything to do with the cancellation, telling Nine News: “This decision has been under consideration for some time and was not to do with any controversy over presenter Yassmin Abdel-Magied.
“Yassmin was aware the program was under review, and we are discussing with her future opportunities at the ABC.”
On Tuesday, she caused further outrage by arguing she had a right to speak her mind, regardless of the offence it may cause.
