More than 50 years after American Pie first changed the sound of popular music, Don McLean is heading back to Australia – and Starts at 60 readers have the chance to see him live.
To celebrate the tour, Starts at 60 is giving away four double passes for each gig in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
To enter, simply email [email protected] and tell us in 25 words or less why you want to see Don McLean live.
Tickets for the tour go on sale at 9am local time on Tuesday, March 31, following a pre-sale from March 27 to March 30.
At 81, McLean remains one of the great storytellers of modern music, still touring, still performing, and still drawing audiences who have lived with his songs for decades.
From the opening lines of American Pie to timeless favourites like Vincent (Starry, Starry Night), Castles in the Air and And I Love You So, his concerts are more than just performances – they are shared memories.
Each show blends music with reflection, as McLean shares stories behind the songs that became part of the cultural fabric of the late 20th century.
Released in 1971, American Pie remains one of the most recognised songs in modern music – a track that continues to resonate across generations.
But McLean’s appeal goes far beyond a single hit. His body of work has stood the test of time, defined by melody, meaning and a voice that audiences instantly recognise.
For many Australians, this October tour will be a chance to reconnect with music that has soundtracked their lives. For others, it may be the first – and possibly only – opportunity to see one of songwriting’s most influential figures perform live.
