If we’re going to take travel advice from anyone, it’d have to be the Queen. Not only is she one of the most prolific travellers today, but she’s also known to love her creature comforts. For those reasons, we want to know all about her travel secrets.

According to The Independent, her majesty has an answer to jet lag and it’s both simple and good for you.

The Queen is known for her long trips, the largest being a 70,000 jaunt across the Commonwealth in 1953, during which she lugged 12 tonnes of bagged with her.

“For jet lag she takes homeopathic medicines and barley sugar,” the publication revealed.

Online medical website, WebMD says barley is commonly used for lowering blood sugar levels and often used to make medicine.

It can also be used to increase strength and endurance and even lower blood sugar and blood pressure.

“What the Queen is doing by having barley sugar is essentially using her body’s sugar metabolic pathways to help adjust her body clock,” Dr Nick Knight told The Telegraph.

If the barley sugars don’t work for you, here are a few other ways to combat jet lag on your next flight.

1. Essential oils

Lavender oil is known for its calming properties and can help ease passengers to sleep on a long flight.

2. Exercise

There’s nothing better than getting the body moving while on a flight. It will keep the blood pumping and could help stop that nasty deep vein thrombosis, too.

3. Plenty of water

You might feel tempted to indulge in alcohol and unhealthy food during a flight, but that will just increase your chances of experiencing jet lag. Stay healthy and hydrated and you’ll feel great at the other end.

4. Adjust your sleep

As soon as you board the plan, wind your clock back or forward to the time at your destination. Thais will give your body plenty of time to adjust.
