The Surfers Paradise skyline will soon be emblazoned with the name ‘Trump’, as part of an agreement between The Trump Organisation and Australian developer Altus Property Group to develop the first Trump-branded real estate project in Australia.
Trump International Hotel & Tower Gold Coast is proposed as a 91-storey structure which will include a 285-room luxury hotel, 272 high-end residential apartments, an exclusive three-level Beach Club, and more than 3,400 square metres of commercial, retail and dining space.
If built as proposed, the structure would rise to approximately 335–340 metres, making it the tallest building in Australia and surpassing existing national records for height.
“Trump International Hotel & Tower, Gold Coast is our first official project in Australia and reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering world-class luxury experiences in iconic locations around the world,” said The Trump Organisation Executive Vice President, Eric Trump.
In a statement, Altus Property Group Chief Executive, David Young, said the project would be a “truly unique offering in the Australian market, bringing the prestige and allure of a world-class luxury brand.” He added that the company’s experience in major developments would help ensure the project’s success.
The development agreement was signed at Mar-a-Lago on February 14 and is backed by private investors from Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Altus says construction could begin later this year and is expected to create hundreds of jobs during both the construction phase and after completion.
Despite the announcement, council authorities have noted that a formal development application has not yet been submitted to the Gold Coast City Council, and necessary approvals are still required before work can begin. Acting Gold Coast Mayor Mark Hammel said the city welcomes investment but that the formal planning process must run its course.
The proposed site has been vacant for more than a decade and previously had approval for a separate high-rise project. Altus executives and The Trump Organisation have described the design as aligning with modern luxury standards and not reflective of what they characterised as dated perceptions of Trump developments overseas.
Local reactions to the announcement have been mixed. Some business groups see the project as a potential tourism draw, while others have expressed reservations about associating with the Trump brand. Officials continue to stress that community consultation and formal planning approval processes will shape the project’s next steps.
