Great weather holiday destinations all year round

Jun 05, 2017

While holidays are great and everyone enjoys a getaway, sometimes depending on when we travel, the weather can be hugely disappointing at our destinations.

However, there are some locations around the world that have great weather, all year round. They might not have perfect weather, but compared to other parts of the world, you can bank on the predictability of the weather in these places.

The Maldives

The Maldives, an island country in the Indian Ocean, is an exotic getaway that enjoys eight hours of sunshine per day on average. The country has dry and wet seasons, but the temperatures vary little during “summer” and “winter” months. The mean daytime minimum temperature totals to around 25°C (77° F). In general the temperature is pretty consistent – it equals around 30°C (86° F). Sounds like a paradise!

The dry season or the north-eastern monsoon lasts from December to March, while the wet season or south-western monsoon, with more rain and higher humidity, approaches the Maldives in May to leave the islands in November.

Hawaii

Hawaiian Islands are synonymous with sunny skies and soaring temperatures, being a great spot that has warm weather all year round. Backed by dramatic cliffs and volcanoes and teetering on the stunning Pacific coast, it’s the ideal spot for those chasing sunshine.

The islands actually have only two seasons: summer and winter, but these do not differ much. The average day temperature during summer is 29°C (85°F) and26°C (78 ° F) in winter. The lowest day temperature is around 20°C (68°F), which is not bad at all. The dry season starts in April and ends in October, and the wet season lasts from November to March, but it rarely rains for more than 3 days in a row, so there is no way the rain could ruin your holidays.

Bangkok, Thailand

By some measures, Bangkok is actually considered the hottest big city on earth. The average temperature for the entire year is 84°F/29°C, which of course includes the coolest month of December when the average high is 87°F/31°C and the average low is 70°F/21°C.

Its location not too far north of the Equator helps explain the oddity of having April and May tie for the hottest months, with average high temperatures of 102°F/39°C. Humidity kicks in in March, so trying to travel in December to February is ideal.

Canary Islands

It is always a good time to visit the Canary Islands. This popular Spanish island group sits off the coast of West Africa. Because of its many high mountains, the climate of the Canaries varies. However, the weather is pleasant year-round in many of the coastal areas that face the Atlantic side of the archipelago. While snow-covered Europe is shivering with cold, the islands’ mean temperature totals to around 19°C (66° F), but obviously, it can get much hotter. Summer average is around 24°C (75° F), but it can easily go up to 30°C (86° F).

November and April are off season months, and it actually is the best time to visit the islands. The fares go down and the temperatures are pleasantly warm, not too hot, but just perfect.

Cape Verde

Ten islands of the Republic of Cape Verde are located around 600 kilometers (375 miles) off the coast of West Africa, but the archipelago’s climate is much more moderate than that of the African countries thanks to the refreshing ocean currents. From December to March the temperature totals to around 25°C (77° F), while summer months enjoy the average daily high temperatures of 29 °C (84 °F).

You would have to be really unlucky to experience heavy rain in the country – the islands receive around 260mm of annual rainfall.

San Diego

This city is known for its great climate, that in fact, it is the key message the tourism ads want you to remember of this place. Summertime highs rarely top 26 °C (80 °F), while winter highs generally fall somewhere around 21 °C (70 °F). Overall, San Diego has about 300 sunny days per year.

California’s other cities also enjoy mild weather, but none of its peers can quite match San Diego’s cocktail of temperatures and sunshine day in and day out. San Diego’s attractions are endless, including the action-packed Gaslamp Quarter, miles of beaches and surfable waves and natural landscapes inland and on the shore.

Have you been to any of these great destinations around the world? Which other destinations have you experienced great weather at?
