When we fly, most of us have a preference as to which seat we choose to sit in – some like the aisle for that extra bit of leg room, while others like to enjoy the view high in the skies. But what if you didn’t have a window at all?
UK company Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) has designed a plane that could change the way we travel by air, with a windowless aircraft. The typical “window” seat would be the most vied for position as the wall panel would become an ultra thin, highly-flexible screen. Passengers would be allowed to choose their view or surf the internet from 35,000 feet up!
Middle or aisle seated passengers wouldn’t miss out either – they can also access the futuristic system on a full-length screen attached to the seat in front of them.
So why are they doing all this? It’s not just for enjoyment, it’s actually a design that reduces the weight of the aeroplane, in turn saving fuel for the airline and then passing savings on to travellers.
Developers are hopeful that the windowless plane (in its design phase) will be able to be jetting off in 10 years time.
