Most of us would remember Daniel McConnell from an unsuspecting interview he gave to Sunrise and the Today show.

Remember back in November when the Brisbane man gave what many labelled “the most Australian interview ever”?

He gave a colourful explanation of how he chased a hit-and-run driver down the street in his jocks.

It prompted a strong response on social media, with millions of people sharing the video and labelling him an “Aussie legend”.

But what happened when all the fame died off?

Well, Daniel has spoken to the Courier Mail about his experience since he shot to internet fame.

There’s been good and bad for him, from being stopped by Wally Lewis’ son Lincoln Lewis for a selfie to being taken on a special tour of the Bundy Rum factor – he told the Courier Mail it’s been an adventure.

And now he’s channelling his stint of fame into a cause close to home – helping young people at risk.

“I had a rough upbringing, I was living in hostels and welfare when I was just 13 and if you don’t look after the younger generation, the world is just going to be f***ed,”  he said.

He also told the Courier Mail that a local dentist offered to fix his teeth for free, but he didn’t take up the offer.

“I don’t want my teeth done yet. Why should I have to change my appearance to what everyone else wants? I’m happy with the way I am,” he said.

What a legend! Daniel certainly made Australia smile.

Do you remember this legend? Are you a fan?
