Beloved actor Warwick Davis has delivered a heartfelt tribute to his late wife, dedicating his latest BAFTA Award in her honour.

Warwick, known for his roles in iconic franchises such as Star Wars and Harry Potter, was honoured with the BAFTA Fellowship at the recent BAFTA Film Awards, where he honoured his “wonderful wife” Samantha in an emotional speech.

“She was always so supportive of my career, and encouraged me to grab every opportunity with both hands,” he said.

“However, I soon noticed that her level of enthusiasm for me taking a particular role was often relative to how much she wanted that new designer handbag,” he joked.

He went on to share that “life has been pretty tough” since the loss of his wife but with the help of his children, he has been able to push forward.

“But thanks to the support of our wonderful children, Annabelle and Harrison, I’ve been able to continue working and engaging in life,” he said.

“Special mention, too, should go to Sponge. You know who you are.

“Thank you for showing me that life can still have meaning, and for helping me to laugh and to love again.”

Samantha passed away on March 24, 2024. In a statement to the BBC at the time, Warwick reflected on the profound void left in his life and the lives of their family following her passing.

“Her passing has left a huge hole in our lives as a family. I miss her hugs,” Warwick said.

“She was a unique character, always seeing the sunny side of life she had a wicked sense of humour and always laughed at my bad jokes.”

Warwick also reflected on the unwavering support his wife offered throughout his career.

“With her by my side, I was sure I could achieve anything, it was like having a super-power,” he said.

“Without Sammy, there would have been no Tenable quiz show, no Willow series. No Idiot Abroad Series 3.

“She was passionate about helping people, without judgment. She had time for everyone and a genuine listening ear.”

Warwick and Samantha crossed paths for the first time on the set of the film Willow back in 1988, when they were just 17 and 16 years old, respectively. Three years later, in 1991, they exchanged vows and eventually became parents to Harrison and Annabelle.

Samantha achieved fame with her roles in Through the Dragon’s Eye, ShortFellas, and Honky Sausages. Together with Warwick, she co-founded Little People UK, a charity aimed at assisting individuals with dwarfism and their families.
