A brave pooch has become somewhat of an internet sensation and an unlikely hero after going head-to-head with a huge brown snake in the front yard of a South Australian home.
The fearless Shiba Inu, named Chardy, was caught on camera by her beloved owner Teresa Barnden, battling with the incredibly dangerous snake outside the property in the Barossa Valley. The frightening video, which has been shared across social media, shows Chardy grabbing the snake by the tail and throwing it back and forth as it attempts to slither away.
In the background Teresa can be heard screaming out in distress as she watches her beloved pet take on the second most venomous snake in the world.
Eventually, after a fierce two minute battle, the snake stops moving, lying motionless on the grass with the proud dog standing over it. According to Teresa Chardy her pet then went on to rip the snake to shreds, ensuring that it was well and truly dead.
Following the harrowing ordeal, Teresa quickly rushed her pooch to the vet in case she had suffered any injuries during the fight.
“I called the vet straight away and explained I would be bringing her in as soon as she had finished the snake off,” the worried owner wrote on Facebook.
“I wasn’t going to try and go near it in case it got me. I think the snake was eating a baby blue tongue lizard as it was in amongst the snake remains. What a freakin day! [sic] ”
Thankfully, Chardy was completely fine, with Teresa explaining in a Facebook comment that it was probably her thick fur coat that protected her.
“Chardy’s absolutely fine. I’m a wreck again after watching video,” she said.
“I only saw 2 little bloody fang marks near her nose. Her whole body except on snout is covered in a double fur coat so if it tried to bite elsewhere, I don’t think would penetrate.”
The video, which has made headlines across the world, has sent chills through many who watched in anticipation as the dog fought bravely against the reptile.

“That’s one tuff [sic] dog. I had goosebumps watching that and so glad your dog is ok,” one person wrote.
Another comment read: “Bloody hell. You must have one tough pooch there woman!!”
And a third added: “Far out! It’s no wonder you need a drink- Hope your Chardy recovers well…”
It comes just days after a Queensland woman discovered a huge snake lurking in her laundry sink.
