As I write this, I am watching Santa pass over Tonga, dropping gifts to the children, and it puts a lovely smile on my face as I wait for confirmation that my own little ‘uns are fast asleep.
Many of you may be aware already that NASA runs a Santa Tracking service called NORAD Santa. But for those of you who have never seen it before, be sure to take a look tonight. On Christmas Eve every year my kids wait until Santa has left the North Pole officially, according to NASA’s NORAD Santa Tracker before they go to bed.
Take a look at the website now to see where Santa is, live. www.noradsanta.com
Here is a short clip that provides an overview of the website and experience. Throughout the day tomorrow you can also show your Grandchildren and track Santa’s progress across the world. It is a beautiful thing to do if, like me you have little nieces and nephews in the US and can show your little ones when Santa is arriving for them.
The story of how NORAD was started back in 1955 is unbelievable, and shows how beautiful this story has become.
NORAD, a bi-national Canadian and U.S. military organization, traces the tradition back to 1955 after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. ad misprinted a phone number for kids to call Santa directly.
Watch the “history of” video below.
Google Maps will also be running their own version of a Santa-tracker, powered with the latest NORAD updates gathered from radar, satellite, and fighter jet data. Just type “Santa” into Google Maps to follow his movements around the globe.
Do you track Santa with your grandkids or did you know NORAD Santa tracking existed?
