Piers Morgan is back in the spotlight after sharing his growing concerns for the state of the Queen’s health.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, May 10, Morgan replied to journalist Chris Ship’s tweet where Ship revealed the Monarch had “been forced to pull out of the big State Opening of Parliament”.
“This is not good. Getting more and more concerned about the Queen’s health,” Morgan wrote.
One Twitter user replied to Morgan’s post, seemingly taking a swipe at the journalist.
“Surely it’s the expectation that at 96 she can keep up the same schedule she did 20 years that is the problem?” the user wrote.
Morgan defended his original statement as he responded to the user to clarify his position.
“It’s the fact she can’t do an increasing number of things she did every year until now that is worrying,” Morgan replied.
Morgan’s post received a number of replies from fans as they expressed their own concerns for the Queen’s ongoing health issues.
Others took a dig at Morgan’s perceived “expectation” that the Queen should be able to face up at the events despite her old age.
During a recent broadcast on Talk TV, Morgan again expressed concern for the Monarch given the upcoming Platinum Jubilee celebrations set to take place in June this year.
“I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say I sincerely wish her the very speediest of recoveries, particularly with the platinum jubilee celebrations coming up fast,” Morgan said.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the Queen’s absence from the State Opening of Parliament in a statement issued on Monday, May 9.
That statement read, “The Queen continues to experience episodic mobility problems, and in consultation with her doctors has reluctantly decided that she will not attend the State Opening of Parliament.
“At Her Majesty’s request, and with the agreement of the relevant authorities, The Prince of Wales will read The Queen’s speech on Her Majesty’s behalf, with The Duke of Cambridge also in attendance.”
The Queen’s absence marked the first time since 1963 that the Monarch has missed the major event.
