Beloved British actor and comedian Stephen Fry has been made a Knight Bachelor by King Charles, leaving the 67-year-old “chuffed”.
The honour was conferred during an investiture ceremony on Tuesday, March 25. King Charles presented Fry with the title in “recognition of his services to mental health awareness, the environment, and charity.”
After the ceremony, Fry expressed his excitement at receiving the prestigious title.
“Chuffed to the heavens. Chuffed to the high walls of the castle,” he said, as per The London Standard.
Fry’s family was present to witness the momentous occasion, with Fry joking about his mother’s reaction to the honour.
“She’s very, very happy and proud, especially given the grief that I gave her and my father and the rest of the family as a child and a teenager,” he joked.
“It’s something that at last I’ve managed some kind of public event that isn’t embarrassing for them.”

Fans and followers shared their delight on social media, with many stating the honour is “well deserved.”
“Yay!! Sir Fry!! Well deserved,” one commented.
“It’s been something I had hoped for a good while. Remarkable brilliant man who really is one of our country’s gems. Well deserved Sir Stephen.”
“Amazing well done Stephen,” commented another.
“Congratulations to all. Sir Stephen Fry. So so so well deserved.”
The honour comes after Fry previously shocked fans following a two-metre fall from a stage during a speech at the AI and technology festival, CogX, in London. The fall resulted in injuries to his leg and ribs, and he was rushed to the hospital.
At the time of the incident, a source told The Daily Mail that “it looked like it was too dark and there didn’t look like there was a handrail”.
“He fell two metres to the floor. He looked to have been hurt as he had to leave in a wheelchair,” the source said.
During a later appearance on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Fry shared details of his recovery, revealing that he was using a cane after sustaining a broken leg, pelvis, and several ribs.
“I am walking with a cane at the moment, because six weeks ago, to the very day, I delivered a lecture at the O2 Arena in Greenwich for part of CogX, which is a sort of festival of ideas, you might say,” Fry said at the time.
“And I was giving a lecture on AI, a subject which has long absorbed my interest since the Seventies. And I took a bow at the end and walked off stage.
“I don’t know why, I just walked off to the right, having come on from the left! I didn’t know as I fiddled with the black curtain that there was a six-foot drop onto concrete.”
