Australian Olympic legend Lisa Curry has opened up about her recent health ordeal, which included undergoing hip surgery after suffering fractured bones during a dog sledding accident while on holiday.
Her admission came after fans grew concerned when she was spotted on social media sporting crutches, sparking an incredible wave of support and well-wishes from across the nation.
On Friday, October 20, Curry took to Instagram to explain the ordeal and reassure her devoted fanbase.
“So … about the crutches!!” she began.
“4 weeks ago I had a hip replacement. Spent a couple of nights in ICU with low blood pressure. Lost my appetite, lost my taste for coffee even!!
“When we were in the Yukon husky dog sledding last January, we had to cross a frozen river on a bend. The husky’s went across the ice no problem but the sled slid, and kept sliding. You can’t let go of the sled because the dogs will keep going. So I held on and held on until I couldn’t and eventually fell still holding onto the sled which immediately puts the brakes on, so the dogs stop … and fell on my hip. So it’s been sore all year, (thinking it was muscular), until I could barely walk, so had a CT scan and it showed fractured bones floating between the ball and socket joint.
“I couldn’t have it operated on before our European and USA tours so just lived on painkillers for that 10 week trip.
“Each day it’s getting better and I’m now able to exercise and swim again so I’m happy about that !! Learning how to walk without a limp, doing simple tasks again. But geez, you don’t realise how many things you take for granted- putting a sock or undies on is like dressing a wriggly wet octopus !! So exhausting.
“Jett had shoulder surgery last week too so we’re all in recovery mode!
“Thanks to my hubby for putting up with me, cooking, cleaning and picking up after me for the last couple of weeks and also to Morgan who drove me around so I could still work! xx.”

Fans from near and far quickly united to extend their support and well-wishes for Curry’s swift recovery.
“I’ve had both my hips replaced Lisa, take your time with recovery. It’s wonderful how they can heal & give you a new lease on life pain free. Take care & get Mark to put your knickers & socks on!” one fan wrote.
“Speedy recovery to you Lisa. Sending you well wishes.”
“You won’t know yourself. I had one in April and life is good!!! Happy healing xx.”
“Looking good Lisa keep up with the rehab,” another commented.
“You poor thing. Hope you recover quickly. Take care.”
Loyal fans offered their support to Curry previously when she revealed a bombshell health issue that led her to be admitted to hospital twice last year.
During a live interview with The Morning Show on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, the 61-year-old revealed that she has Atrial fibrillation.
According to NHS, atrial fibrillation is a heart condition that causes irregular and abnormal heart palpitations, which reduces one’s heart to efficiently pump blood.
“I have been in hospital twice this year with a little bit of AF. I don’t know where I have got that – it has just appeared. The doctors say I need to be weaned off alcohol and coffee, and that is hard,” she told the program.
Common symptoms include dizziness, shortness of breath, tiredness, and noticeable fluttering or irregular heartbeats.
