Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has become the first sitting PM to get engaged, after popping the question to long-term partner Jodie Haydon on Valentine’s Day.

The romantic proposal took place at the Lodge after the couple enjoyed a delightful dinner at the renowned Italian and Sons restaurant in the Canberra suburb of Braddon.

The engagement announcement was shared with the world through a heartwarming tweet by the PM himself, accompanied by a photo of the couple and a shining engagement ring.

The engagement ring, was not just any ring, it was designed by none other than the Prime Minister himself, adding a personal touch to this special occasion.

“We are thrilled and excited to share this news and look forward to spending the rest of our lives together,” Albanese and Haydon said in a joint statement.

“We are so lucky to have found each other.”

Colleagues, politicians, and the Australian public alike took to social media to extend their heartfelt congratulations to the happy couple.

The couple's journey began in 2020 when they first met at an event in Melbourne. Their shared love for the South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL team became the foundation of their connection, and since then, they have built a strong and enduring relationship.
