A baffled Aussie pub-goer has taken to the online platform Reddit to share their shocking experience with a classic Aussie pub offering: the humble chicken schnitzel.

The drama unfolded when they ordered the beloved pub classic, expecting a plate overflowing with golden-fried goodness.

However, what arrived at the table could only be described as a schnitzel sampler rather than the hearty meal they had hoped for.

“Ordered the schnitzel like I usually do at rsl’s and slsc’s but this is pathetic for 20$, at other slsc’s 20$ will get you a large sized parmi but this is just taking the piss. Anyone know why this is just in the Coolum area?” they wrote.

The downsizing dilemma struck a chord with Redditors from all corners of the country, prompting a flurry of reactions that ranged from sympathetic to shock and infused with a healthy dose of witty commentary.

One user quipped, “Itty bitty shitty schnitty,” capturing the sentiment of many who were taken aback by the downsized portion. The use of humor seemed to be a coping mechanism for the disappointing situation, as another Redditor remarked, “Looks like they gave you the one that’s intended for a chicken burger.”

The downsized schnitzel didn’t escape the scrutiny of those who appreciate a hearty meal, with a user humorously suggesting, “Damn, ya gonna need a doggy bag to take home what you don’t finish.”

Some users couldn’t resist the temptation to channel their inner ‘Karen’, as one boldly declared, “I’m no Karen, but I’d be taking that back.”

A more reflective perspective emerged as a Redditor lamented the state of schnitzels and parmis in general, stating, “Everywhere looks like that with their schnittys and parmis these days. It is why I refuse to order one while out.” This user suggested a workaround, pointing out that premium pub schnitzels from Woollies, priced at $4 each, offer a more satisfying solution for home-cooked parmis.

One comment summed up the collective disappointment with a touch of nationalistic pride, stating, “That’s unAustralian.”

An itty bitty schnitty isn’t the only pub offering that is leaving patrons disappointed as it would seem that now a refreshing pint of beer has been caught up in the clutches of the rising cost of living as another shocked Aussie pub-goer recently learnt during a visit to his local watering hole.

In a recent post to Reddit, the customer stunned fellow users after sharing a snapshot of his beer receipt from the iconic Harbour View Hotel in The Rocks, revealing a hefty $17.80 price tag on the EFTPOS console. The shockingly high amount, he explained, incorporated a 15 percent surcharge, without which the beverage would have been a slightly more modest $15.13.

“$20 pints are just around the corner,” they captioned the photo.

Much like the outrage over the downsized pub meal, the post ignited a discussion among beer aficionados and budget-conscious pub enthusiasts alike, many expressing their concerns over the increasing cost of enjoying a pint in their favorite establishments.
