That’s pretty harsh.
Veteran American actor Robert De Niro has said that if America were a movie, it would be a “tragic, dumb-ass comedy,” while just four years ago it was an “inspiring, uplifting drama.”
De Niro, 73, was met with applause and laughter as he made the remarks in a speech to graduating students at Brown University in Rhode Island.
“Well, the country’s gone crazy,” he started the remarks, and also advised the graduating students to “lock the… gates” and stay at the university.
“But if you do leave, work for the change. Work to stop the insanity,” he said.
“Start now so the class of 2018 will graduate into a better world.”
The two time Oscar winner is a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, and far from the only celebrity to be outspoken in his disapproval.
Before the election, he recorded a video where he called the then Republican nominee a “punk”, a “dog”, and a “pig” who “doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

Trump supporters on social media were quick to voice their disapproval over De Niro’s remarks, calling him “ill informed”, “clueless”, and an “unhappy, angry hate-monger.”
