Richard Wilkins welcomes newest grandchild into the fold

The love a grandparent has for their grandchildren brings endless joy and so much is true for renowned Nine Entertainment editor, Richard Wilkins.

69-year-old Wilkins recently welcomed another grandchild to the world and was overjoyed to share his exciting news with Today Extra hosts, Sylvia Jeffreys and David Campbell.

Grinning like a Cheshire cat, he said, “My son Nick and his beautiful wife Bree had a little bubba on Saturday.”

As an ardent numerologist, he also commented on little Amira Jean’s birth date.

“You know I like numerology so 6, 4, 24 is a good birthday,” he joked.

Both Jeffreys and Campbell were quick to extend their congratulations to the Wilkins clan.

“Congratulations man,” said Campbell.

“And congrats to Nick and Bree too, she’s lovely,” Jefferys added.

His colleagues’ well wishes triggered an emotional response in Wilkins who said, “Oh it’s beautiful, you’re going to make me cry.”

Like any good journalist worth his salt, Wilkins broke the news further on his Instagram page with a photo of him cuddling his gorgeous tiny granddaughter looking pink and new in her floral swaddle and headband ensemble.

The photo was captioned: “What an overwhelming joy to meet the youngest member of our little family Amira Jean …

“What a perfect little princess you are … absolutely divine!

“Born 6/4/24 GrandDaddyPapaBear loves you so much … and can’t wait to watch you make your mark on the world!

“Congratulations to your magnificent parents Bree and Nick … I love you and am so proud!”

Well wishers, friends and fans flooded Wilkins’ page with messages to congratulate the proud granddad.

“Lovely! Isn’t it great being a Grandparent?” one wrote.

“Congratulations Richard to you and your family.”

“So very lovely. Welcome to the world beautiful girl. How blessed to be so very loved.”

“Huge congratulations! She’s beautiful. God bless her,” commented another.

“Congrats Best Grandad of the Year.”

“Beautiful what a blessing for you & gorgeous Nick & his beautiful girl.”

Amira Jean is Wilkins’ third grandchild and his son Nick and daughter-in-law Bree’s first child.

His daughter, Rebecca, has two children.
