British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to become a father again after his partner Carrie Symonds announced she is expecting her first child later this year.

According to the BBC, Carrie shared the happy news on her private Instagram account as she revealed they not only had a wedding to look forward to in the near future, but also their first child together.

“I wouldn’t normally post this kind of thing on here but I wanted my friends to find out from me,” she wrote.

“Many of you already know but for my friends that still don’t, we got engaged at the end of last year. And we’ve got a baby hatching early summer. Feel incredibly blessed.”

The marriage will be the prime minister’s third, after he divorced his first wife Allegra Mostyn-Owen in 1993 and is in the process of finalising his divorce from second wife Marina Wheeler after the pair separated in 2018.

Boris and Marina tied the knot in 1993 and share children Milo Arthur, Theodore Apollo, Lara Lettice and Cassia Peaches. The PM is also allegedly father to another daughter Stephanie Macintyre.

The Conservative Party leader’s relationship with former Tory PR staffer Carrie was officially confirmed when the two began appearing in public together in mid 2019, however they are rumoured to have been an item since 2018.

Following Johnson’s ascension to the Conservative leadership, and therefore the prime ministership following the resignation of Theresa May in July 2019, Carrie became the first non-married partner of a prime minister to move into 10 Downing Street.

Depending on when the couple tie the knot, Johnson could become the first British leader to get remarried while in office for more than 200 years.

Following Carrie’s announcement, many other political figures took to social media to publicly congratulate the couple. Former chancellor Sajid Javid wrote: “Congratulations @carriesymonds@BorisJohnson wonderful news!”

While former head of the Scottish Conservatives Ruth Davidson also congratulated the couple on Twitter.
