Controversial television host Piers Morgan is once again making headlines, this time for his unfiltered commentary on the recent World Cup semi-final match between the Matildas and England’s Lionesses.

Morgan, known for his outspoken opinions, took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the game, sparking a heated debate among fans.

The Matildas’ aspirations for World Cup glory were shattered as they endured a devastating defeat in the semi-finals against England.

In front of an impassioned crowd of over 75,000 at Sydney Olympic Park on August 16th, the Matildas suffered a 3-1 loss against England’s Lionesses.

In a nail-biting semi-final encounter, England’s Ella Toone secured an early lead for her team in the 36th minute.

The team’s superstar captain, Sam Kerr, later left everyone in awe with an extraordinary long-range solo goal in the 63rd minute, prompting supporters to rise to their feet and level the playing field.

However, the elation was short-lived, as Lauren Hemp found the back of the net just eight minutes later, restoring England’s lead and dashing the Matildas’ aspirations.

Alessia Russo sealed England’s triumph with a third goal in the 86th minute, cementing their spot in the final against Spain.

Despite the heartbreaking loss, fans nationwide rallied behind the Matildas, showering them with praise for their courageous performance.

Many were quick to call out Morgan’s unsportsmanlike behaviour, some urging him to “give it a rest” while others highlighted the positive impact the Matildas have had on the game during their World Cup campaign.

As Morgan continues his criticism from the sideline, the Matildas are gearing up to go head-to-head with Sweden on Saturday, August 19 for a third place finish.
