Nicole Kidman’s moving tribute to her late mother: ‘This is for you’

Beloved Australian actress Nicole Kidman has delivered a tearful tribute to her late mother, dedicating a recent accolade in her honour

Kidman learned of her mother’s death in September 2024 while attending the Venice Film Festival in Italy, where she was promoting her new movie Babygirl. The tragic news forced her to miss the event.

Now, the Australian star has paid an emotional tribute to her late mother after receiving the 2025 Palm Springs International Film Festival’s international star award on Friday, January 2 for her performance in Babygirl.

After expressing her gratitude to director Halina Reijn for casting her in the movie, the 57-year-old told those in attendance that she was “still grieving” following her mother’s passing. She then teared up as she dedicated the award to her mother.

“Thank you for giving me the chance to say, ‘This is for my mum.’ My whole career has been for my mum and my dad, who are not here now,” she said.

“I’m still going to keep working and giving to the world because I love what I do and I love you all, and I’m so grateful for the privilege to be a part of the film community.

“I’m sorry that I’m crying, I didn’t want to do that. But I feel my mum right now so this is for you.”

Following her mother’s death, Kidman was overwhelmed with an outpouring of “love and kindness” from fans. She took to social media recently to express her heartfelt gratitude for the support alongside three photos of her late mother: one solo portrait and two with Kidman and her sister, Antonia.

“My sister and I along with our family want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week,” she began.

“Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express. Thank you from our whole family for respecting our privacy as we take care of each other.”
