Ushering in a new era for the newly minted Neighbours, the iconic theme song which continues to evoke nostalgia around the world has received a fresh new shakeup by none other than The Voice season nine winner, Chris Sebastian.

Regarding the unexpected honour, the talented musician, singer and songwriter said he was “over the moon” after the initial shock wore off.

“When I was told the Neighbours team were going to use my voice for the new season theme song, I was shocked and of course over the moon,” he told MediaWeek.

“I have grown up with that soundtrack and I still can’t quite believe that this is real. Neighbours, we are all so glad you are back, it hasn’t been the same without our friends. I hope you guys love my version of the theme song as much as I loved recording it for you.”

Less than a year after being taken off the air, the much-loved Aussie soap opera will be making a highly anticipated comeback on September 18.

A statement released on the Neighbours Twitter page early in 2022 revealed that the loss of the show’s key UK broadcast partner and the inability to find alternative funding meant the show could no longer afford production.

However, in an exciting turn of events, just months later producers announced the show would indeed be making a comeback after securing backing from streaming platform Amazon Freevee.

Neighbours fans will be able to keep up with all the latest from their favourite residents of Ramsey Street on Channel 10 and will also be able to stream the show on Prime Video.

The show is expected to pick up two years from where it left off with all the usual stars making a comeback including appearances by Hollywood A-listers, Guy Pearce and Mischa Barton.

Before filming for the new series began, fan favourites Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburne, Stefan Dennis, Ryan Moloney, Annie Jones, and April Rose Pengilly spoke of their excitement to return during the Neighbours – The Celebration Tour at the London Palladium.

At the time executive producer, Jason Herbison told those in attendance at the tour that “it feels very real now. It’s a hive of activity at the studio”.

“We’re busy writing the next chapter of Neighbours, bringing to life again the show’s much-loved characters as well as new residents,” Herbison said.

Neighbours first aired on March 18, 1985 becoming one of the longest-running drama series in Australian television history.
