Heartbreaking footage of a murdered couple’s last moments alive before they were shot dead in Canada has been revealed, as the father of the young Australian man speaks out about his devastating loss.

Lucas Fowler, 23, and his American partner Chynna Deese, 24, were discovered on a remote stretch of the Alaska Highway on July 15 around 20km from the popular Liard Hot Springs after being shot.

Canadian police confirmed the couple were travelling together in a Blue 1986 Chevrolet van with Alberta licence plates before their deaths, with newly released CCTV footage showing them together just two days before that fateful day.

In the video, taken at a petrol station in Fort Nelson in British Columbia, Lucas and Chynna can be seen embracing and sharing a loving hug near their vehicle.

The footage comes as Lucas’ father, NSW Police senior officer Stephen Fowler, shared a touching statement about his beloved son and his girlfriend shortly after arriving in Canada following the shocking news of their deaths.

The heartbroken dad spoke of his sadness at losing his son and how distraught they are that the lives of two young people in love have been cut short.

“I may be an experienced police officer but today I’m standing here as the father of a murder victim,” Stephen explained in a press conference.

“We are just distraught, this has really town two families apart. Our son Lucas was having the time of his life travelling the world when he met a beautiful young lady. They teamed up and they fell in love.”

He continued: “It’s a love story that ended tragically. It’s the worst ever love story because we now have two young people who had everything ahead of them tragically murdered.”

Meanwhile, Canadian authorities have also released a sketch of a man they are looking for who is believed to have spoken to Lucas and Chynna shortly before they were found dead.

“There was a man who was seen speaking to Lucas Fowler and that is the individual you see in this composite sketch here,” Sergeant Janelle Shoihet explained as they revealed the image in a press conference.

“There was a conversation my understanding is and that’s why investigators are looking to speak with this individual who may have information.”

The man is not considered a suspect but a person of interest who investigators believe may be able to provide some insight into the murder of Lucas and Chynna.
