Fans have been given a glimpse into the strength and resilience of legendary singer Michael Bolton, who has opened up about his recent battle with brain cancer and his determination to “keep going.”

Bolton was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer, in 2023. Fortunately, surgeons were able to remove the tumour and Bolton underwent radiation and chemotherapy treatment.

Given glioblastoma’s high recurrence rate, Bolton now undergoes regular MRI scans to monitor his health. He is also working to overcome speech and mobility challenges caused by the treatment.

Undeterred by adversity, Bolton is facing it head-on and remains determined to keep moving forward.

“I want to keep going. I feel there’s still a lot to do on the fight side. I got a title for a song: ‘Ain’t Going Down Without a Fight.’ ” he told People.

“[The whole experience] gives me a heightened sense of appreciation. It’s unthinkable for it to be okay not to make the most of your life.

“I think we develop capabilities and problem management, and we learn how to make the best out of a bad situation. You have to be a cheerleader for yourself.”

Fans first learnt of Bolton’s diagnosis in early 2024, when he took to social media to share the difficult news with his loyal supporters.

“I want to start by wishing everyone a very happy and healthy new year! I also want to share that 2023 ended up presenting me with some very unexpected challenges,” Bolton began.

“Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor, which required immediate surgery. Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success. I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family.

“For the next couple of months, I will be devoting my time and energy to my recovery which means I’ll have to take a temporary break from touring. It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon.

“I am beyond grateful for all the love and support you have so generously shown me through the years. Know that I’m keeping your positive messages in my heart, and I’ll give you more updates as soon as I can. Much love always, MB.”

Fans around the world quickly rallied behind the beloved artist, flooding social media with messages of encouragement and love.
