Kristin Davis ‘wasn’t eating any real food’ during SATC

Kristin Davis “wasn’t eating any real food” at the height of her Sex and the City success.

The 61-year-old actress played Charlotte York in Sex and the City, the hit HBO show, and Kristin admits that she became very self-conscious about her appearance as the series grew in popularity.

“There was a time earlier in the show where you can see my ribs… like I had dieted,” she said on her Are You a Charlotte? podcast.

“It was like later in the season, and it was one of those hot summers, and I just remember I just ate M&Ms,” she said.

“I just ate M&Ms like for a couple weeks. I don’t know why I didn’t lose my mind or whatever, and like I have no breasts left, like it’s just like bones.

“What I mean is that I wasn’t eating any real food.”

Davis kept her weight down by following the lead of some ballet dancers.

“It wasn’t healthy. And I did go to this acupuncturist one time. He was like, ‘Don’t put that in your mouth.’ And I was like, ‘Why not? It’s all I eat.’ Because I had read that ballet dancers smoke cigarettes and eat candy bars. So I was like, ‘Well, if they can do it, I can do it.’ But I wasn’t smoking a cigarette.”

Meanwhile, Davis previously admitted that she was unimpressed by the Sex and the City pilot.

The actress never imagined that the TV show would become so successful.

“I was never a fan of the pilot. It didn’t seem smooth. It seemed kind of choppy and hectic,” she said.

“But I also feel my personal theory on pilots in general is that if they’re too good – if the pilot is too formed – the show might not be good.”

Davis also revealed that she was initially offered $US5,000 ($A7,180) to play a “recurring character” on the show.

“One day, I’m in my trailer and she [a producer] knocks on my door and I opened it and she says, ‘Oh, well, we have this paperwork we need you to fill out.’

“And I was like, ‘okay.’ I take the paperwork and I look at it and it seems to be a new contract, but it’s only two pages long, and I’m like, ‘What is this?’ And it says, ‘You will be a recurring character and you will be paid $5,000’.”
