As talkback king Ray Hadley prepares to sign off after an extraordinary 43-year career, 2GB has announced the multi-award-winning broadcaster set to take his place.

Hadley announced that he was hanging up his mic at the end of the year. During an on-air announcement on Thursday, November 7, Hadley told 2GB listeners that he was calling time on his career as a race caller, rugby league commentator and morning show host.

“I’ve achieved far more than I ever thought I would,” he said.

“It’s been a hell of a ride, from a young bloke wanting to call the races, to being the old bloke sitting in this studio for so long.

“But the time has come for someone else to do the job.”

2GB has now named listener favorite Mark Levy as Hadley’s successor, with Levy set to take over hosting duties.

Levy, who began his career 18 years ago in sports broadcasting, has covered some of the country’s most significant events, including the NRL finals, State of Origin, and the Olympic Games, as a key member of Wide World of Sports and The Continuous Call Team.

An accomplished broadcaster, Levy has won six Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRA), including Best News Coverage for his fast and accurate reporting of the Bondi Junction attacks.

Levy said he was “extremely honoured” to step into Hadley’s shoes, describing him as both a “mentor and a friend”.

“As a young kid I grew up listening to the talkback kings and to be taking over a timeslot that’s been owned by a mentor and a friend for the last 20 years is something I am excited about and extremely honoured to do,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead and I can’t wait to speak to our loyal listeners every morning about the issues affecting them in what’s shaping up as an important election year.”

2GB Content Manager Luke Davis praised Levy as “one of Australia’s most gifted, hard-working and versatile broadcasters – and a favourite of 2GB listeners.”

“As we usher in a new era of 2GB Mornings, Mark will make the 9.00am-12.00pm timeslot his own, with a fresh take on what matters most to Sydneysiders,” Davis added.

Levy will officially take the helm of 2GB Mornings from Monday, December 16.
