‘I am heartbroken’: Celine Dion delivers moving tribute to the late Quincy Jones

A “heartbroken” Celine Dion has joined those mourning the legendary music producer Quincy Jones, delivering a moving tribute to “the one and only musical genius”.

Jones sadly passed away on Sunday, November 3 at his Bel Air home in Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.

Jones’ family issued a statement following his passing in which they reflected on “the great life that he lived” despite their “broken hearts”.

Equally devastated by Jones’ passing was Dion who took to social media to pay tribute to her friend and “cherished mentor” while reflecting on their time spent together.

“I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of my friend, the one and only musical genius, Quincy Jones. Quincy touched my world as both a cherished mentor and as also as someone I looked up to for his deep impact on virtually every form of American music,” she began.

“I was privileged to work with Quincy, it was a dream come true. In our sessions, his musical intuition was nothing short of profound – he helped me capture ‘a little piece of heaven.’ Quincy always knew exactly what each song needed.

“In addition to his kindness and countless achievements, I also admired him for his philanthropic work which benefited the arts, global famine and underprivileged youth. His reach truly extends to all corners of the globe!

“Quincy once said, ‘Music is the soul of the universe. It connects us all on a level that words alone cannot reach.’ May his wisdom and joy remain with us always.”

Fans were quick to praise Dion for her “beautiful words” for Jones while offering their own tributes to the late entertainment legend.

“Soooooo beautifully said!!! He was absolutely amazing!!!” one commented.

“Another great legend gone from this Earth RIP. Mr. Jones, you truly made music special.”

“May the soul of Quincy Jones rest in peace. The words of your musical mentor will remain in people’s hearts forever along with his music,” commented another.

Dion’s tribute joined a wave of admiration from thousands who honoured Jones’ remarkable career and lasting impact on music.

Known for a legacy of unparalleled achievements, Jones’ crowning moment came as the producer of Michael Jackson’s albums Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad in the 1980s, which helped make the singer the biggest pop star of all time.

Jones also worked with jazz greats such as Miles Davis, produced Frank Sinatra, and put together the superstar ensemble that recorded the 1985 fund-raiser We Are the World.

Jones also contributed his talents to film scores such as The Color Purple and the 1990s television show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

For his outstanding achievements in the music industry, Jones was recognised with a Grammy Legend award in 1992 for his “ongoing contributions and influence in the recording field.”
