Reality television has done some wild things in the past, but a new show in the Netherlands is causing uproar over a game called Pregnant or Fat.

In the game, a women walks out onto the stage in front of a live audience and stands on a rotating platform while a panel of men looks on and tries to guess whether she is with child or is just carrying extra weight around her middle.

The show called Neem Je Zwemspullen Mee, which translates as Bring Your Bathing Suit, has sparked some serious backlash with an online petition calling for it to be booted off air.

Adding to the ire is the fact the show airs on the Netherlands public broadcasting station and runs on taxpayer money.

The online petition says the show treats women like a piece of meat and suggests “that it is okay to shamelessly to assess a person’s body”.

“This is unworthy of the public broadcaster,” the petition says. “… women must have their say and not live as meat pieces rotating to entertain onlooking men.”

Another segment on the show asks men to guess whether a woman’s breasts are real or fake.

Despite the backlash, the production company has released a statement saying that “through these satirical settings, we laugh off all forms of prejudices.”

What do you think?

Does this show objectify women? Or is it okay because the women volunteered to be on it?
