Controversial ‘feminist’ Germaine Greer is back again with her outspoken views, claiming perfunctory sex is far more damaging than a violent and brutal rape.

Providing the public with a sneak peak of her upcoming book On Rape in The Australian’s Review, the 79-year-old not surprisingly didn’t hold back in her shocking statements.

Describing the changing definition of rape, the Aussie writer spoke of “spectacular” legal injustices that have been carried out the regularity of partner rape.

However, it was her comments surrounding perfunctory sex that are sure to divide the public.

“Perfunctory sex is not criminal but it is damaging,” Greer wrote. “Neglect and indifference from a loved one are far more corrosive of self-esteem and ultimately more spiritually damaging than a random attack from a stranger, however violent.”

The writer went on to say in the article how often non-consensual sex is occurring and that most of these men end up without any kind of punishment.

Although she was herself raped as a teenager, Greer has been incredibly vocal on her belief that rapists should in fact receive a light jail sentence.

Speaking only months ago on ABC Radio National’s Saturday Extra, she claimed more lenient sentences would actually help the courts convict more people of rape and that it shouldn’t be treated as such a serious crime.

“One of the problems is by making the sentences heavier, you get a jury that is less and less likely to convict, because it’s so serious,” the writer said.

Greer called for courts to concentrate on the violence in obviously violent sexual assault cases, saying they should attract bigger sentences, rather than having long trials in which women are humiliated.

That wasn’t the end of it either with Greer continuing by saying how rape is “not an unusual form of behaviour” and that those in most long-standing relationships would experience non-consensual sex at some point.

On another occasion the controversial woman even labelled rape as simply “bad sex” and not a “violent crime”.

“Instead of thinking of rape as a spectacularly violent crime – and some rapes are – think about it as non-consensual, that is, bad sex. Sex where there is no communication, no tenderness, no mention of love,” Greer exclaimed.
