Fans have offered messages of love and support to legendary singer Bruce Springsteen after he revealed the heartbreaking news of his mother’s passing at the age of 98.

In a post to Instagram post, Springsteen delivered a touching message reflecting on the treasured moments he shared with his mother, Adele Zerilli Springsteen. The post included a heartwarming video capturing the pair dancing to the Glenn Miller swing-era classic In The Mood.

“I remember in the morning mom hearing your alarm clock ring. I’d lie in bed and listen to you getting ready for work, the sound of your makeup case on the sink,” he began.

“And the ladies at the office all lipstick, perfume and rustling skirts, how proud and happy you always looked walking home from work.

“It ain’t no phone call on Sunday, flowers or a Mother’s Day card. It ain’t no house on the hill with a garden and a nice little yard. I’ve got my hot rod down on Bond Street I’m older but you’ll know me in a glance. We’ll find us a Little rock ‘n roll bar and we’ll go out and dance.”

Fans quickly rallied around Springsteen, offering condolences and sharing memories of the remarkable woman who had endeared herself not only to Springsteen but to the entire E Street Nation.

“What a beautiful video! So so sorry for your loss! She looked like a tremendous lady!” one wrote.

“So sorry to hear this. Sending love.”

“RIP Adele. My Condolences to Bruce’s immediate and extended family. To Adele and Douglas, thank younfor the amazing gift you bought into the world.”

“So very sorry for the loss of your beloved mom. All of our hearts are broken for you knowing what she meant to you. Thinking of you and all your family. May her memory always bring you joy,” commented another.

“So sad to hear this. She sounds like an amazing woman and mother. You spoke of her so fondly she earned a spot in all your fan’s hearts. Rest in peace, Adele.”

While the specific details surrounding Adele’s passing remain private, Springsteen had previously shared in 2021 that his mother had bravely battled Alzheimer’s disease for a decade.

The tragic news comes after Springsteen, who has been enduring ongoing health issues, was forced to cancel all remaining shows for 2023. This decision was made in light of the 74-year-old rock icon’s struggles with peptic ulcer disease, a health challenge he has been transparent about.

Springsteen previously disclosed his health concerns in a message posted on his official website and social media channels, revealing that he and The E Street Band had made the decision to postpone all performances for September 2023 while he received treatment.

“Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows,” he told fans at the time.

“First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our U.S. shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon.”

Although the initial delay was intended to be brief, Springsteen announced an extended hiatus, announcing he will not be getting back on the stage with the E Street Band until 2024.

“Bruce Springsteen has continued to recover steadily from peptic ulcer disease over the past few weeks and will continue treatment through the rest of the year on doctor’s advice,” Springsteen’s said in the update.

“With this in mind, and out of an abundance of caution, all remaining 2023 tour dates for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will be postponed until 2024.

“Rescheduled dates for each of the 2023 shows, including those postponed earlier this month, will be announced next week, all taking place at their originally scheduled venues.

“When the new 2024 dates are announced, those unable to attend on the new date who purchased their tickets through official ticketing companies have 30 days to request a refund. All tickets for postponed performances will remain valid for the newly announced dates.”

Springsteen added his gratitude to “all my friends and fans for your good wishes, encouragement, and support. I’m on the mend and can’t wait to see you all next year.”
