The entertainment world is mourning the loss of horror icon Tony Todd, beloved for his chilling role in Candyman, who has sadly passed away at the age of 69.
Todd’s manager Jeffrey Goldberg announced that the star died on Wednesday, November 6 at his home in Los Angeles. His cause of death was not disclosed.
“I had the privilege to have Tony as my friend and client for over 30 years and I will miss that amazing man every single day,” Goldberg said in a statement.
“Known worldwide for his towering presence, both physically and artistically, Tony leaves behind an indelible legacy in film, theatre and the hearts of those who had the honour of knowing him.
“We bid farewell to Tony Todd, a giant of cinema and a beloved soul whose impact on our lives and the world of film will never be forgotten.”
Todd’s film career spanned over 100 movies, with standout roles in Platoon (1986), Night of the Living Dead (1990), The Crow (1994), The Rock (1996), the Final Destination series, and as The Fallen in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009).
However, it was his chilling portrayal of the vengeful spirit in the 1992 horror classic Candyman that truly defined his career and became his most iconic role. His haunting performance captivated audiences, making him a lasting figure in horror cinema.
Todd also enjoyed a successful career on the stage, captivating audiences in roles such as King Hedley II and The Captain’s Tiger, earning a Helen Hayes nomination.
Television audiences knew Todd from recurring roles in Boston Public, Law & Order, 24, and the Star Trek series, where he portrayed multiple characters, including Kurn and adult Jake Sisko. He voiced characters like Dreadwing in Transformers: Prime and the villain Zoom in The Flash.
As news of Todd’s passing spread, a wave of tributes flooded social media, with countless fans reflecting on his remarkable career in entertainment.
