An elderly woman has been rushed to hospital after she was attacked by her son’s dog minutes after she found him dead in their Melbourne home.

According to a 7News report, police officers were called to a home in Hampton Park, in Melbourne’s south-east, on Sunday morning after reports of a dog attack.

Inside the home, police found the woman and her elderly neighbour injured, with whom she enlisted the help of after she found her son unresponsive. The pair were rushed to hospital for treatment. It’s now been reported by Nine News that the pair were attacked by one of her son’s four dogs.

After being confronted by the dog, one officer was forced to shoot the animal, killing it instantly, 7News reports.

Her son, believed to be in his 40s, was found dead in another room. Police said the man’s death was not believed to be related to the dog attack and was not being treated as suspicious.

A fourth man was inside the home and was not injured, while three other dogs at the property have been removed by the council ranger.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
