Christmas lights around the country for 2013

Where do you go to see the best Christmas lights? It’s a special feeling, hopping in the car, ready for a night adventuring around the city to see the lights together, carols blaring on the stereo and a sense of excitement and Christmas in the air.

Christmas Lights 3

Christmas light touring is a beautiful way to spend time with your family, and especially your grandkids. Maybe give their parents a night off, by having the kids for dinner and taking off on an adventure around town. It could be the beginning of a great tradition that will help keep you connected to your little ones for many years.

We’ve put together our favourite Christmas light displays in each of the capital cities around Australia. So get the family together and enjoy an evening of fun and Christmas cheer. Tell us where you favourite places are so the Starts at Sixty community can get into the Christmas spirit!

Brisbane

Chermside, St Gerard Majella Catholic Parish’s Christmas display.

Runs nightly through December until Christmas Eve. The festivities include a beautiful light display, a coffee shop, gift shop and Santa Claus photos.

Belmont, Brandella Place.

This whole street comes to life, so park the car and take a walk around the houses enjoying the beautiful collection of lights. Neighbouring streets also provide displays so make sure you check out the whole suburb.

Redland Bay, Dory Close.

This is another street with lights on every house! Families sit outside and enjoy Christmas drinks with family, friends and neighbours so enjoy the friendly community atmosphere.

Melbourne

Brunkswick, 17 Fraser Street.

This house is covered in an amazing light display. Complete with a walk-through path, it will be bright start to your night.

Ivanhoe, The Boulevard.

This has been coined “Melbourne’s best” because of the extensive decoration and lights display. Be careful and park a few streets away and walk in because it gets very busy!

Doveton, Eugenia Street.

Multiple houses along this street will be dressed up in their Christmas brightest so take a look and enjoy the Christmas spirit.

Canberra

Hawker, Sprinvale Drive.

Head to 60-70 Sprinvale drive for a collection of brightly decorated houses.

Dunlop, Cashion Court.

Multiple houses along this street put lights up although it is house number 14 that goes the further step and have a light display that is synchronised to music.

Ford, 8 Chiesa Street.

If you time it right and visit this house on a weekend or even in the last few days before Christmas, you might get to see Santa for photo opportunities amongst the light display.

Perth

East Perth, Old Beldivere Promenade.

The buildings here all get dressed up and it is like looking up at a big wall of festive colour and excitement!

Leeming, Pirrett Court.

Some have called it “over done” but we say it’s fantastic! The display shimmers with beautiful delicate lights and is festive with its highlighted Santa’s, Christmas treats and stars.

Gosnells, 95 Dorothy Street.

With lights, reindeers and a real-life Santa every Saturday, this house is a wonderful stop to make to celebrate the Christmas spirit.

Visit the two spectacular displays here and take note of the radio frequency signs at the front. Tune your radio in and watch the light display synchronise to the music from your car!

The displays in Neptune Crescent are all handcrafted by the home owners. The frames are made by wire and every single light bulb is hand painted – a beautiful sight!
