‘What a loss’: Rod Stewart reflects on the loss of Sinéad O’Connor in ‘lovely tribute’

Renowned singer Rod Stewart has delivered a touching tribute to the late and incredibly talented Sinead O’Connor, whose sudden passing left the world in shock.

After adoring fans flooded social media with tributes to O’Connor following her passing, Stewart took to social media himself to share a throwback video of him singing her popular hit song Nothing Compares 2 U in honour of the singer.

“My heart goes out to Sinead O’Connor’s family. What a loss,” Stewart wrote alongside the video.

Fans flooded Stewart’s post with messages of praise for his touching tribute while reflecting on the passing of O’Connor.

“Nice post Sir Rod, to the point and sincere. Sometimes that’s all that’s needed in a somber moment,” one fan wrote.

“Thank you Rod, rest in peace Sinead O’Connor, a beautiful soul.”

“So beautiful. Your voice is just so soulful and human. Rest In Peace Sinéad you are forever in our hearts. May you rest with your beautiful son and be at peace,” commented another.

“Lovely tribute! Rest in peace!”

“Rest in peace Sinead, this is nice of you Sir Rod. You and Mary J. singing anyone’s song would make them feel honored.”

Much like Stewart, O’Connor left a lasting impact on the world of music. Her journey began with the release of the critically acclaimed debut album, The Lion and the Cobra, in 1987, followed by the groundbreaking success of I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got in 1990 which featured the iconic hit Nothing Compares 2 U.

Over the years, she released ten studio albums, among them, Am I Not Your Girl? in 1992 and Universal Mother in 1994 achieved the coveted gold status in the UK, while Faith and Courage in 2000 received gold recognition in Australia, and Throw Down Your Arms in 2005 earned gold certification in Ireland.

Her unapologetic approach to addressing spirituality, activism, socio-political issues, and personal struggles endeared her to fans worldwide.

Fans and fellow musicians were left in a state of mourning following her passing on Wednesday, 26 at the age of 56.

O’Connor’s family released a statement announcing the passing of the Nothing Compares 2 U hitmaker.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad,” the statement read.

“Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
