Tennis great Serena Williams has delighted fans across the world after announcing the birth of her second child.

Sharing the wonderful news on social media, she joined forces with her husband, tech entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian, to share an endearing photograph of their precious new addition, a baby girl named Adira.

“Adira River Ohanian,” she wrote alongside the photo.

Ohanian also shared a similar image on Instagram, telling followers that he is “grateful to report our house is teaming with love”.

“Welcome, Adira River Ohanian,” he wrote.

“A happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama.

“Feeling grateful. @serenawilliams you’ve now given me another incomparable gift — you’re the GMOAT. Thanks to all the amazing medical staff who took care of my wife & our daughter. I’ll never forget the moment I introduced @olympiaohanian to her baby sister.”

Williams’ baby news triggered a wave of celebration, with fans from near and far sending messages of congratulations and good wishes.

“Congratulations Queen. Welcome baby girl!” one fan wrote.

“Congratulations @serenawilliams sending love to you and your beautiful family.”

“So sweet! Welcome precious princess!” commented another.

“Such a beautiful family! Welcome to the little princess.”

Williams isn’t the only tennis legend to welcome a child recently after Australia’s Ash Barty welcomed the arrival of her first child.

Much like Williams, Barty took to Instagram to announce the exciting news to fans with an adorable picture of her own little bundle of joy.

“Our beautiful boy. Welcome to the world, Hayden!” Barty wrote at the time.

The 27-year-old recently delighted fans once again after revealing what life is like as a new mum, telling the Herald Sun that becoming a mother is “the best thing” she has ever done

“And hardest thing I’ve ever done,” she added.

“Hayden is amazing, I feel so very lucky. Garry and I are really just enjoying what is a pretty quiet time together at home as a little family.”

In addition, Barty described the “incredible” bond she shares with her newborn son, an experience she had glimpsed through her sisters becoming mothers, but one she now acknowledges as reaching an entirely “different level” with her little Hayden.

“Having seen my sisters become mums, and spending so much time with their kids, I had some idea of how it would feel, but it’s certainly at a different level when it’s your own child, and they are completely dependent on you! It’s pretty incredible,” she explained.
