Farmer Wants a Wife is set to come back to our screens in 2022 with a very special guest. Samantha Armytage, former co-host of Sunrise, is excited for her new guest spot on the dating show.
Sam said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Farmer Wants A Wife in 2022. I’ve always been a huge fan of the show and of country people, and I know first-hand that falling in love with a farmer is just about the most wonderful thing you can do.”
Channel 7 reports that Sam will join the host, Natalie Gruzlewski “across the new season” to help guide both the farmers and their prospective partners, to find true love.
The new season will differ from the last, as they’ll feature a new segment entitled “Sam’s choice”, where Sam acts as a fairy godmother, choosing a new lady for each farmer, based on her own read of each farmer, and their needs and wants.
Seven’s Network Director of Programming, Angus Ross, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome Sam back to our screens.”
“Given Sam’s new life on the farm, she’s in the perfect position to share a snapshot of what farm life could look like for the ladies.”
Sam famously left Sunrise in March this year, after a tumultuous eight-year wave in ratings leading to co-host Natalie Barr becoming the lead anchor, alongside David “Kochie” Koch.
In many interviews after her departure, Armytage shared that she felt the show wasn’t as fun anymore, due to the harsh criticism she garnered for seemingly obscure things.
Additionally, Armytage had met her own farmer, Richard, and had recently married, so the pull for her to remain at the helm of the Sydney-based program just wasn’t as strong, especially when considering the “lightning rod” she had become to the show.

In June, Armytage did an interview with radio shock-jocks Kyle and Jackie O, which was filmed then shared by Armytage to her Twitter feed with a somewhat snarky message.
Armytage said:
“Look… I’m out. Nat’s wanted the job, forever.. & she’s finally got it. She just needs to get on & enjoy it – & forget about me..(even though I’m unforgettable *emoji*) #peaceout”
