Twilight Zone actor Orson Bean, 91, dies in car accident

US actor and comedian Orson Bean, who lived in Australia in the 1970s, has died after he was struck and killed by two cars while walking in Los Angeles. He was 91 years old.

According to multiple reports, Bean was walking across a busy road when he was struck by a vehicle and fell, then was struck by a second vehicle. He reportedly died at the scene.

The car coming westbound did not see him and clipped him and he went down,” Los Angeles Police Department Captain Brian Wendling told ABC’s Eyewitness News. “A second vehicle was coming up, was distracted by people trying to slow him down and then looked up and then a second traffic collision occurred and that one was fatal.”

Bean was a frequent participant on shows like The Tonight Show, To Tell the TruthSuper Password, and Match Game, and was also known for his roles on The Twilight Zone, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.

Jane Seymour, who co-starred with Bean in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, led tributes to the veteran actor, writing on social media: “I’ve been trying to find the right words. I’m heartbroken about the tragic death of my dear friend Orson Bean. He starred in Dr. Quinn and was one of the kindest and funniest people I’ve ever known. He was so incredibly talented with such a joy for life.”

American actress Kristy Swanson wrote: “This is beyond tragic. My heart goes out to his entire family. Orson was the classiest most wonderful man I have ever met. Rest In Love dear Orson, we will miss you very much.”

“Heartbroken over the death of beloved Orson Bean,” one fan wrote. “One of a kind actor & man with a joyous unflagging spirit. Sending love to Alley and his family.”

While another added: “He was another great actor who was taken from us too soon. May his brilliance and legacy live on in the memories of those he touched through his wit and funny charm.”

Bean is survived by his wife of 23 years, actress Alley Mills and four children from previous marriages.
