Actress Susan Sarandon hasn’t had much in the way of a love life since her split to Jonathan Bricklin in 2015, but now the 74-year-old has opened up about her relationship status saying she still “has hope” and is open to finding either a male or female companion.

Sarandon was married to ex-husband Chris Sarandon for 12 years before the pair split in 1979. By 1988, the actress started what would be a 21-year relationship with Tim Robbins, which ended in 2009. Sarandon then enjoyed a five-year relationship with Jonathan Bricklin, who was more than 30 years younger.

The actress, who has previously described herself as a “monogamist” told People this week that “the window may have closed” but she still hoped to find a travel companion, someone – male or female – who was up for an adventure.

“I would like to have a travel companion, male, female — age doesn’t matter,” she said. “But I would like to find someone who’s up for an adventure kind of attitude. And also, who cares about something passionately and who loves what they do, whatever that is.

“I guess my point is I’m pretty open, but I don’t know, Covid-19 isn’t exactly the most perfect dating situation to be finding people. So, I don’t know, but I’m pretty happy making memories with my kids.

“In terms of a romantic relationship, I don’t know. That window may have closed, but I’m forever hopeful — but not desperate.”

The actress recently told the Divorced Not Dead podcast that she’s enjoying being on her own since her last major relationship, with director Jonathan Bricklin, ended in 2015.

“I’m kind of getting off on being by myself,” she said. “I think I’m pretty open to the idea of being with someone, but, you know, it certainly would take someone extraordinary to share my medicine cabinet at this point. I think that that those days are over.”

In 2017, the actress talked openly about her sexuality to PrideSource, describing herself as a monogamist, but said when it came to sexual preferences she didn’t think of it as rigidly.

“I don’t think you had to declare yourself as rigidly as you do now in terms of having to declare yourself almost politically about your sexual preference,” she said. “My sexual orientation is up for grabs, I guess you could say.”

Sarandon is mum to actress Eva Amurri, 35, who she shares with Italian director Franco Amurri, as well as her children with actor Tim Robbins: director Jack Henry Robbins, 31, and musician and actor Miles Robbins, 28.
