Vaccinations and jabs can spark fear in anyone who hate needles and if Lou Ferrigno’s latest social media post is anything to go by, people may need to pay extra attention when getting a shot.

The star of 1970s classic The Incredible Hulk revealed he ended up in hospital after what should have been a standard pneumonia vaccination went very wrong. The 67-year-old actor took to his Instagram and Twitter pages earlier this week with a shocking photograph from his hospital bed.

Hooked up to a drip and wearing a green hospital gown, the Sinbad of the Seven Seas star looked worse for wear in the photograph that was worlds away from the usual body building snaps that flood his social media.

“Went in for the pneumonia shot and landed up here with fluid in my bicep,” the father-of-three wrote. “I’ll be ok but it’s important that you keep an eye on who’s giving the shot and make sure they not only swab the spot correctly but that you watch the needle come out of the package.”

Concerned fans were quick to offer their support for the former body builder and to share their own horror experiences with needles.

One fan wrote: “Praying for my childhood hero, stay healthy and you. We need you Loud, God bless you, you’re an amazing guy.”

Another comment read: “Get well Lou!!! Go hulk on them if you need to.”

A third added: “Big Lou I’ve been in and out of the hospital for years now and you never know what you’re gonna get you always have to keep an eye on who’s doing what.”

Lou later took to his Facebook page to give fans a further update of his health.

“Thank you everyone for your thoughts and kind words,” he wrote.

He explained he had to stay overnight but that he was feeling better.

“Great reminder to take care of yourself because when random life events like this happen you can recover faster!”

While the fitness trainer didn’t reveal which shot he was given, there are two types of vaccines that protect against pneumonia in the United States. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the PCV13 and PPSV23 vaccine are recommended for people over the age of 65.

The star seems to be back on the road to recovery and has since resumed his regular social media posting on Facebook. He later revealed that his son, Lou Rerrigno Jr, would be following in his footsteps to appear in a superhero movie called Stargirl. Of course, he didn’t waste much time in also posting a vintage bodybuilding shot.

Has anything like this ever happened to you? Have you had any bad reactions to a jab before?
