While the ups and downs of Jimmy Barnes and David Campbell’s relationship of the past is not new knowledge, it’s refreshing to see that their father-son bond is now blossoming. In recent years, Campbell has shared heartwarming images of the two, showing how much of a loving, blended family they are now.

Speaking exclusively to The Daily Telegraph in 2018, Campbell opened up about how the pair healed their relationship by talking through his childhood, while his dad expressed remorse for not being around enough.“I wasn’t together enough to be present in David’s life when he was born. I wasn’t together enough even when we did approach it,” Barnes revealed.

The Aussie rocker also opened up about his own traumatic childhood, blaming his mum for not protecting him when he was subject to abuse at the hands of his alcoholic father. The impact of Barnes’ upbringing had a domino effect on his son’s life, but after years of growing up with his grandmother and thinking the iconic rockstar was just a ‘family friend’, the pair eventually united.

Not only has Barnes become more involved in his son and grandchildren’s lives, but the pair also love performing together and have now done so for a number of years. The musical talents have recorded several duets together and often perform at each other’s concerts. They also performed together on an episode of Dancing with the Stars.

In May 2020, Campbell took to Instagram and shared, “Escaped to see the family, so no live show tonight. But don’t worry. My dad and I have something special planned. Stay tuned #family.”

The father and son duo decided to surprise their fans with a three-minute Facebook live video, as Barnsey’s wife, Jane Mahoney, joined them on guitar and vocals. They did a cover of a Gerry and The Pacemakers song. Finishing up, Barnes gave a kiss to both his wife and son, elaborating on the unstoppable love between their blended family.
