Celine Dion’s famous tune ‘My Heart Will Go On’ helped with her rise to fame, and now the singer has revealed how it also played an important role in her late husband’s final wish before his death three years ago.

René Angélil sadly passed away in January, 2016, following a battle with cancer. And while he was quite ill in the days leading up to his death, Celine said the one thing he wanted more than anything was to see her perform ‘My Heart Will Go On’ on stage one last time.

Speaking to The Mirror recently, the singer said it was Rene’s choice for her to perform in Las Vegas prior to his death, despite her desire to stay by his side.

While he couldn’t be there to see her perform in person, Celine said her late husband was watching on from the comfort of their home.

“For him it was very important because I took a year off to take care of him, but towards the end he said to me, ‘I need to see you go on stage and sing, I want to make sure, I need to see it’,” the singer told The Mirror.

Celine went on to say that although it wasn’t therapeutic for her by any means, it was what Rene wanted and it made him happy.

“I didn’t feel like partying or putting on short dresses and feathers,” she said. “But what kept me doing was that I thought of him. I did it for him.”

Celine’s revelation comes weeks after the singer hit back at body-shamers who have criticised her small frame, explaining in an interview “you can’t please everybody”.

For the past few months concerns have been swirling around the globe about the singer’s size with many fearing there was something wrong with the star. Addressing the comments, Celine has claimed their words haven’t affected her and her slimmer figure is natural .

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the 51-year-old said she’s always been very thin, but it’s just who she is. Keeping active and healthy with ballet and stretching, Celine explained it’s keeping her mind, body and soul happy, adding that she can take the criticism.

“If you don’t want to be criticised you are in the wrong place,” she told the television program. “I take the positive. I take what’s good for me. I leave behind what is not good for me.”

“I let my management take care of that and if it hurts anyone, they will take care of that. And I need to focus on what’s right for me, how I feel and last, but not least, you can’t please everybody.”
