Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman has spoken briefly about his recent separation from his wife of 27 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, revealing that “it’s a difficult time”.

The news of Jackman and Furness splitting up surprised many in the entertainment industry.

They first met in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV show Correlli, and they were seen as a strong example of a loving and stable couple in the often unpredictable world of Hollywood relationships.

During a previous interview with TODAY, Jackman revealed that he felt an instant attraction to Furness, explaining that he “knew two weeks into meeting Deb that we were going to be together for the rest of our lives”.

Nevertheless, it appears that fate had other plans for this beloved couple, as they recently issued a joint statement to People magazine, announcing their decision to go their separate ways.

“We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” the statement read.

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.

“This is the sole statement either of us will make.”

As loyal fans come to terms with the once-loving couple’s surprise separation, Jackman has broken his silence to address the split while out for a walk in New York recently.

“It’s a difficult time,” he said when asked by a photographer about the break-up.

“It doesn’t feel quite right talking about it on the street.”

According to reports, Jackman was polite and smiled at the photographer before carrying on with his day.

The surprising news of the split caught many off guard, especially given the couple’s frequent affectionate posts on social media.

Seeing how openly in love they appeared online makes this separation undoubtedly tough for both of them.

In a prime example of their profound connection, when Jackman and Furness recently celebrated their incredible 27-year wedding anniversary, The Greatest Showman star took to Instagram to share a loved-up snap of the pair alongside a touching tribute.

“I love you Deb. Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 YEARS!! I love you so much,” he wrote.

“Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me. I love you with all my heart.”
